Who is this course for?

This course is aimed at organisations and individuals who have a duty of care to babies, children and adults within their working environment. This includes Nursery environments, childminders and carers.

Required qualification levels should comply with Ofsted regulations and the DFE Early Years Foundation Stages.

Course specification


The Paediatric First Aid at Work Level 3 qualification (Full FPA) consists of the
Emergency first aid at work syllabus, with the addition of a second day of training covering children’s illnesses and injuries. The qualification is designed to meet the new requirements for people involved in the care of babies and children in Early Years settings or childminding.

This certification is valid for three years and is a recommendation by OFSTED to comply with the Early Years Foundation Stage Document.

Certification is accredited by the First Aid Industry Body.

The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 states ‘that those employers, their first aiders and emergency first aiders, together should organise and provide first aid, according to the needs of the organisation. All employees need to be aware of the provision made.

Entry information

This qualification can be completed as an individual unit or as part of package or amalgamated qualification. There are no academic prerequisites for learners wishing to complete this course although a basic level of literacy is required. The qualification is suitable for learners 16+ who must be physically capable of demonstrating the practical requirement of the assessment as detailed.


There are no specific academic progression paths from this qualification however the Emergency First Aid at Work unit will lay the foundation for the(three day FAW) level 3 First Aid at Work qualification.


The Paediatric First Aid at Work certificate is valid for three years and requalification requires full training and assessment again in conjunction with the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for the unit.
