We have recently been bombarded with enquiries regarding the British Heart Foundation resuscitation campaign featuring Vinnie Jones. It seems to have caused some confusion regarding chest compression speeds and the necessity for ventilations. The ad campaign is designed to give concise, easy to remember CPR direction for complete laymen who have no first aid CPR knowledge.

There have been no changes to the ratio of breaths and chest compressions and anyone who has formal first aid training should, where possible, adhere to the training they have received:

 30 x compressions

 2 x breaths

at approximately 100 compressions per minute

The last revision of first aid practices (2005-2006) stated that, due to the reluctance of some rescuers to give mouth to mouth  for hygiene reasons etc., the resuscitation council under these circumstances would advocate the use of chest compression only as to do something is better than nothing. To date there have been no changes to this guidance.
